Take a Walking Tour around Amman
On Wednesday, August 28, 2019
Amman Design Week has developed a series of non-guided tours in collaboration with Cluster Cairo, offering six unique trails that connect our three districts by stairs. The walking trails, which have been printed in the form of a handy map, were born out of a set of mapping exercises carried out in Jabal Amman, Downtown Amman, and Jabal Lweibdeh.
Amman is a city characterized by a distinct topography of hills and valleys, through which it has evolved in a cascading/ climbing urban development. Serving as both path and destination, the stairways have become landmarks in traversing the history of the city, and are in constant dialogue with its ever-growing number and diversity of citizens.

These curated trails are by no means comprehensive but are itinerants developed in the collaboration and built upon the Amman Stairways Mapping Project developed by CLUSTER in collaboration with Columbia University's Center for Spatial Research (CSR) and Studio-X Amman at the Columbia Global Centers | Amman.

We invite you to discover our participating spaces and to re-discover Amman along these stairways, and to explore them as a lens through which to explore Amman's broader historical, cultural, and socio-economic history.
You can download a digital copy of the map through this link, or pick up a map at one of our information booths at Amman Design Week 2019.
