Painted by the calligrapher and designer Hussein Alazaat, the Abdul Muhsen Al Khazimy Stairway in Jabal Al Lweibdeh is dressed in a verse from a poem by Aboul-Qacem Echebbi entitled “If the People Wanted Life One Day”.
The installation canopy is made by women in Ghor El Safi (Safi Crafts) using traditional techniques in cultivating indigo and creating dyes, which are then transferred to modern applications in design.
In her spatial installation, titled ‘Saha’, architect and urban researcher Saba Innab uses claustra blocks to create a constellation constructed through the spatial and symbolic definers of the Hashemite Plaza; the Amphitheater, the arcades of Saqf el Seil Street (Quraysh St.), and the invisible body of water.
The installation consists of three major components: the gravel pits, sand/rock mounds, and benches that delineate various courtyard typologies. The benches are constructed of wood painted white, while the gravel pits and mounds create a distinct composition on the plaza framed within and in between the benches.
For the Hangar Exhibition 2019, Bethlehem-based architects Elias and Yousef Anastas presented a stone column made out of architectural ruins with an approach that seeks to integrate salvaged building components in contemporary architecture.
