The Hangar Exhibition
Against a backdrop of instability, issues of emergency and first aid remain at the forefront of preoccupations. The following projects presented at the Hangar Exhibition attempt to address these issues in a variety of mediums and responses.
Mariam Ibrahim, a Cairo-based artist, presents ‘hale’, a project that aims to upgrade patient hospital attire by integrating design and technology and enhancing patients’ daily needs through three innovations to traditional gown design: making it disposable, launderable, and sensor-connected.

The project presents a functional design alternative to using the first aid toolkit, that helps facilitate personal medical care during emergency management efforts, in case of a paramedic delay or the need for instant treatment. One of the project goals is the implementation of an emergency ready pre-hospital system that engages ordinary citizens in first aid. This work was designed with the help of Wassim Alami.
