ِAbout the Workshop
Participatory design is an important, but often overlooked component of any sustainable design process. It secures user buy-in, generates creative solutions that are tailored to the needs of communities, and is a significant contributor to relevant placemaking. Participatory design involving youth is even more critical as the youth are particularly excluded from decisions affecting their built environment.
The Center for the Study of the Built Environment (CSBE) has developed a pilot participatory design process and is currently implementing it in three public schools. The workshop will present the project and teach basic participatory design applications for working with youth. Participants will be exposed to the methods applied and learn to:
Select tools for understanding environmental perception of stakeholders
Develop methodologies for presenting drawings, analyses, and design techniques to youth
Develop participatory approaches to decision-making through surveys and public discussions
Develop strategies to include users’ perspectives in the design process
Guide group design processes
Bi-lingual/ Free / Seats are limited. Register here.
