Friday 21 and Saturday 22 August 2020

Open call for participants

 

Calling high school students and young creatives to join us on the weekend of 21-22nd August for an opportunity to learn and develop new skills in art and design in our Student Open Days.

Led by previous participants of the Student Exhibition at Amman Design Week, a series of workshops will take place over the two days, covering various topics from the design thinking process, to abstract painting.

Interested applicants must submit their registration forms online by 16 August 2020.


About the workshops


1. Colors in Interior Design by Sarah Al Atari

Introduction to color theory, rules of the color wheel, current trends in interior design, and other topics, led through a practical hands-on approach.

*Participants are required to bring in their notebooks/sketchbooks.

Date: Friday 21 August
Time: 10:00am - 2:00pm (4 hours)
Targeted age group: 18-25 years
Language of instruction: bilingual


2. Printmaking by Sarah Sunna, Lujain Hattar, and Farah Yameen

A workshop on the craft of printmaking on fabric, with experimentation in minimalist art, self portraiture, and calligraphy.

*Participants are required to bring in a piece of fabric to print on (jeans, t-shirt, blank shirt, etc.)

Date: Friday 21 August
Time: 10:00am - 2:00pm (4 hours)
Targeted age group: 15+
Language of instruction: bilingual


3. Design Thinking Process by Jana Tantash

Covering the various stages of the design thinking process, with hands-on exercises of brainstorming and generating solutions through CAD and low-fidelity prototyping. The main focus being generating user-centric solutions that result in improved customer retention, cost savings, quicker time-to-market and great return on investment (ROI).

*Participants are required to bring in their working laptops (with Google SketchUp installed), as well as notebooks/sketchbooks. A background in design is desirable, but not required.

Time: 2:30pm - 6:30pm (4 hours)
Targeted age group: 13-17 years
Language of instruction: English


4. Minimalist Abstract Landscape Drawing by Hala Alzubeadi

An introduction to abstract painting, covering history, color mixing techniques, and use of basic tools, to create a piece of art at the end of the workshop.

Date: Friday 21 August
Time: 4:00pm - 6:00pm (2 hours)
Targeted age group: 14+ years
Language of instruction: bilingual


5. Introduction to Digital Art by Dana Sadeddin

Covering the basics of digital art drawing on Photoshop using a drawing tablet*. Skills taught include color techniques, blending, making brushes, and other basic skills.

*Participants are required to bring in their drawing tablets and laptops, with Adobe Photoshop installed.

Date: Saturday 22 August
Time: 10:00am - 2:00pm (4 hours)
Targeted age group: 14+
Language of instruction: bilingual


6. The Design Process (with focus on Graphic Design) by Basem Tash

An introduction to the design process from beginning until reaching a final product, with a focus on graphic design, led through hands-on exercises.

*Participants are required to bring in their working laptops (to be used for general research purposes), as well as notebooks/sketchbooks.

Time: 2:30pm - 5:30pm (3 hours)
Targeted age group: 16+ years
Language of instruction: English


7. The Process of Innovation by Mamoun Khasawneh

A talk on the process of innovation, drawing insights from experiences in the local market and in generating 3D printable prosthetics.

Date: Saturday 22 August
Time: 5:00pm - 6:00pm (1 hour)
Targeted age group: 13-17 years
Language of instruction: English

Registration Guidelines

 

Eligibility Requirements

  • The workshop is open to students and young designers and creatives. 
  • Participation will be based on a first-come, first-served basis, where priority will be given to applications that fit within the targeted age group.
  • Participants must commit to the full duration of each workshop.
  • If you are interested in more than one workshop, please submit a separate application for each one, paying attention to any overlap in timings.

Submission Guidelines

  • Eligible participants are required to fill the online registration form and submit their portfolio or work samples (if applicable).
  • Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Only selected applicants will be contacted.
