The tie-dyeing technique of ikat is practiced in numerous cultures around the world. In Jordan and Palestine the ikat, which was mainly woven in Syria, finds a long tradition in various costumes such as the colorful dresses from Ma'an. This hands-on workshop will give you a step-by-step introduction into ikat-making – from thread to your own woven piece of textile. Understanding the process, experimenting with colors and dyes and learning the tie-dyeing method will be followed by eventually transforming the pre-dyed threads into handwoven patterns.
