About Tiraz: Widad Kawar Home for Arab Dress

Tiraz is an interactive museum for an elegant and extremely rare kind of social history; a history which is tactile and visual, woven into fabric, and related though the work of feminine hands. It has taken over fifty years of commitment and vision to build the Widad Kamel Kawar collection, as a home for one of the most significant archives of Arab costume heritage in the modern era. Tiraz is more than a space to remember. It is a place to restore and renew what could have become lost.

About rogalla_wienkamp_lin

The collective rogalla_wienkamp_lin in collaboration with designer Veronica Andres is working interdisciplinarily on exploring anthropological and traditional aspects by bringing them into a contemporary design and exhibition context. The four designers combine various experiences and professional skills from curating, craft and design backgrounds which are involved in the research and making of experimental surface designs and objects. Johanna Rogalla, Milena Wienkamp, Laura Lin, and Veronica Andres have graduated from Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle (Germany) in Textile and Industrial Design. Work and study stays from Middle-East and North-Europe to Southeast-Asia constantly influenced the designer's individual focus and raised their interest for connecting elements between cultures. Rogalla_wienkamp_lin's work focuses on screen printing, CAD jacquard weaving and other techniques dedicated to hand crafts such as hand weaving, ikat and embroidery.
