The Memory Matrix is a monument that explores the possibilities for future heritage creation, employing new fabrication techniques and transcultural workshops. This talk is by Azra Akšamija, an artist and designer from Sarajevo based in Boston, where she is Associate Professor at the MIT Program in Art, Culture and Technology.

Local designer Sahar Madanat introduces audiences to her work and talks about what it means to design for people and tailor products to their specific needs. This talk is by Sahar Madanat, whose work focuses on innovation in product design, ranging from medical design to new concept furniture.

The faculty, which is open to the local community, holds art exhibitions for its students and academic members, reflecting their diverse schools of art, and presenting a clear picture of the faculty’s artistic richness. The current exhibition showcases the works and projects of students from the Architecture, Interior Design and Graphic Design departments during the 2015-2016 academic year.

The installation is a window display of a mechanically driven geometrical sculpture that can be reconfigured and designed by members of the audience’s hand movements. It is a playful installation, simply empowering the audience with the power of design through seamless technology.

Learn the basics of papermaking using natural, local materials and the traditional techniques of the craftswomen of Iraq al Amir. Participants will experiment with fallen palm leaves, grass, flowers, sumac, red henna, saffron, rose leaves, paprika, tea and local coffee.

About the Workshop

This furniture design workshop focuses on understanding the different design genres, that are essential in relating the product to the proper context.

The seminar will adopt an engaging rapport with the students, presenting them with a model of a green home in addition to relevant illustrations and devices. The seminar will expose children in Jordan to concepts of design and the function of architecture through the craftsmanship embodied in the model.

Celebrating the remarkable work of this year’s graduating class, the first JO Grad Show is a local exhibition of students graduating with degrees in Graphic Design and Interior Design from Jordanian universities.

This workshop is aimed at those interested in learning the basics in dining event design and table top design. The workshop encourages participants to find creative ways to set table the table using the limited means found at home. Participants will learn the basics of assembling floral arrangements and table-top designs.

Design is all about creating alternatives. A timeless vision is one that is big enough for the future we are moving into. It is a vision that represents a place, not a point, and allows enough space to hit the target. This workshop will answer: What vision do I need in today’s world? How do I make my vision resilient? What makes a vision compelling?

We surround ourselves with products that are mostly static, while in nature everything always moves. In this workshop participants learn from low-tech, craftsmanship techniques and understand how to use them for creating a dynamic design – creating an evolution out of the static and towards fluid motion.

Solving design problems involves a system, as well as technical and tactical knowledge, which designers need to develop for appropriate thinking and decision making. This workshop is targeted toward design professionals and students.
