The Crafts District
The Kabariti Village, once home to several families from the Kabariti family, was opened to the public for the occasion of Amman Design Week, where it hosted the Crafts District exhibitions curated by Arini. The exhibitions, which showcased the work of different craftspeople across the country, also included an installation done by Paradigm Design House, which was set up in an old cave at the entrance of the Kabariti Village.
The Shadow Cave is an installation of LUCEM lighting fixtures to create a play of shadows using lights and different shaped silhouettes in the cave.
LUCEM Lights is a collection of light fixtures made from translucent concrete, which is a composite of concrete embedded with fiber optics that transmit light.
LUCEM Lights started with the concept of creating a shadow theatre within a light. As a translation of this concept, the first collection, LUCEM One, started with using only one color of translucent concrete and adding objects to the inside of the fixture in order to create projections on the outside. The light fixture becomes the user’s own hybrid shadow theatre customized in different silhouettes, and transferring personalized stories and ideas.
The concept was narrated in the cave using an ancient storyteller technique; that was implemented on the lighting fixtures which depicted customized silhouettes to create a scene in which the user’s own shadow theater is achieved.
