Amman Design Week is collaborating with Darat al Funun to host a team of designers from Jordan, Palestine, and from the Netherlands in an educational exchange under the program of "Disarming Design from Palestine".

Based in Ramallah, the program unites Palestinian crafts communities with contemporary designers and artists from Palestine with Masters students from the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam to exchange knowledge, experiences and techniques. Together, a line of thought-provoking products that speak of Palestine’s current reality is developed. The products are then sold locally and internationally to spread alternative stories and reflect upon the function of creative practices in situations of conflict.

In 2017, the program comes to Amman to include Jordanian designers and local craftswomen from Palestinian refugee camps in Amman, who are invited to share their stories, skills and knowledge, with particular reference to the Palestinian diaspora. The workshop, taking place in September, will include sessions at Darat al Funun’s “The Lab” and at a local refugee camp.

A selection of the workshop’s outcome will be taken to production and afterwards exhibited (and sold) at “The Lab” during Amman Design Week from 6-14 October 2017.
