Architect and choreographer Shireen Talhouni will be choreographing a site-specific performance that explores the relationship between the individual, the collective, and the city.

The Amman Design Week edition of 7-Jar takes participants on an experiential discovery of various design elements in the city, including handicrafts, transportation, food production, art, urban public spaces and street life.

This accessories making workshop introduces participants to the traditional art of loom weaving. Mastered by Bedouins for hundreds of years, loom weaving is a craft used by tribes to make beautiful functional and decorative pieces. Each Bedouin tribe has its own tradition in the designs used; each pattern on a rug or tapestry tells unique story belonging to that tribe. Participants in the workshops will apply similar weaving techniques to make their own unique beaded bracelet. A modern take on an old tradition, this workshop aims to keep the tradition of loom weaving alive.

In this workshop, Amal presents her personal experience dealing with waste and speaks about the challenges and benefits of recycling and finding creative ways to reuse waste. Participants will learn creative ways to repurpose waste, and should bring recyclable items, like water bottles, juice containers and food cans.

Frustrated by the littering and garbage that can be found scattered throughout Jordan, Amal was inspired to develop solutions and to contribute to a more environmentally sustainable future for Jordan.

The workshop provides an introduction to 3D Printing and its technologies and where and how this technology is used on a global scale.

Hosted by SADDA Design and Build Studio, the material process of design tour allows participants to explore the relationship between products and materials, as experienced by architects and designers.

This workshop allows children to create characters using clay that they can bring to life with a camera, and will enhance children’s motor skills and introduce them to the mechanics of filmmaking and STEAM learning concepts.

As of 2017, Jordan still does not have a nationwide household recycling program. This exhibition aims to highlight the large amount of waste created on a daily basis throughout the country, and seeks to create awareness about the importance of properly recycling, reusing, and disposing of waste.

As Amman looks to institutionalize resilience planning citywide, Resilience by Design University (RBD_U) is an opportunity for academics, students and practitioners to come together through a two-day event focused on Amman’s challenges of water, waste and transportation.
