This accessories making workshop introduces participants to the traditional art of loom weaving. Mastered by Bedouins for hundreds of years, loom weaving is a craft used by tribes to make beautiful functional and decorative pieces. Each Bedouin tribe has its own tradition in the designs used; each pattern on a rug or tapestry tells unique story belonging to that tribe. Participants in the workshops will apply similar weaving techniques to make their own unique beaded bracelet. A modern take on an old tradition, this workshop aims to keep the tradition of loom weaving alive.

This year, Wajha introduces their concepts, experiences, and work to children, giving them a chance to learn the basics of designing a logo for a shop. Hussein Alazaat and Ali Almasri provide tools such as assisted stickers of generic icons and illustrations for different types of shops to encourage children to create their own designs, using markers and colors on blank blueprints.

Following the development of her approach in the first iteration of “A Pattern Language” in Beirut, Grace Aaraj leads this multidisciplinary workshop to analyze the city of Amman, targeting the issue of pedestrianism. The 15 minute film will consist of six interviews with Jordanian architects, each of whom will discuss one of the winning projects for the 2016 (13th) Cycle of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture. The film screening will be followed by a conversation between Farrokh Derakhshani, the Director of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture (Geneva); Mohammad al-Asad, the Founding Director of the Center for the Study of the Built Environment in Amman (CSBE) and a member of the Steering Committee for the 2016 cycle of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture; and Ahmad Humeid, founder and CEO of Syntax Digital.
